The Michigan Department of Treasury has millions of dollars in lost or forgotten assets from dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, valuables left in safe deposit boxes and stock certificates.
Because these properties were considered abandoned and unclaimed by the bank or company entrusted with them, they are turned over to the state, as required by law. The Michigan Department of Treasury is the custodian of these assets and returns them to their owners (or the owners’ heirs) when they are rightfully claimed.
To search the Michigan Department of Treasury’s Unclaimed Property database, enter a name or business name and select “Search”. All properties containing this name will be included in the results. See the instructions below.
How To Claim Unclaimed Property
STEP 1: Navigate to the Property Search Page.
STEP 2: Type your name to search for Property
Type your name (first name, last name or both) into the Last Name/Business Name field and click SEARCH. If you receive too many results, try to narrow down the search by entering a city or zip code.
STEP 3: Select your property and click “CLAIM”
Once you’ve found the properties that may belong to you, click the CLAIM button, and then click the gray VIEW CLAIMED PROPERTIES button to begin the claims process.
